Connecticut voters should use ballot drop boxes to cast absentee ballots

Ahead of the general election in November, Secretary of the State Denise Merrill said Monday that voters are better off depositing completed absentee ballots directly into official ballot drop boxes, which will be located in every town, rather than mailing them in.

“This postal situation is very, very detrimental to us,” Merrill said. “We just finished explaining to everybody that they could vote absentee during COVID for the general and the primary elections. And now we have a situation where the Postal Service is going to be slowing up.”
“To have to reverse course and tell people, ‘No, actually don’t use the mail, use the drop boxes’ is a huge public education challenge,” Merrill said.
